As part of ongoing initiatives to ease the transportation woes of World Cup fans in Qatar, the authorities have upgraded the Lusail Bus Station. It is one of the eight stations that are part of the Public Bus Infrastructure Program that was envisioned for the FIFA World Cup.

The decision to upgrade the Lusail Bus Station is a strategic one. It is centrally located amidst key landmarks and facilities in the city. Fans can find it alongside the Lusail Metro Station on the Al-Khor Coastal Road.

Lusail will transport fans to and from Al Bayt Stadium and Lusail Stadium. Other Public transmit modes are also connected to the Lusail Bus Station. These include the Lusail Tram, Bus Rapid Transit service, Doha Metro, metrolink services, Park and Ride parking lot.

About the Lusail Bus Station

The bus station occupies a distance of 39,708 sq meters. It comprises of nine parking areas and as many lanes. It can accommodate 10,000 passengers per day.

For now, the station operates 40 buses. It contains a dedicated passenger waiting area, commercial facility, mosque, and administrative office.

Formal announcement

The Ministry of Transport announced the measure today. The authority says that the move will go a long way in achieving sustainable transportation in the desert kingdom.

This goal is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, with plans to equip bus stations with electric charging equipment for efficient and eco-friendly bus services.

Back in April, the Hamad Port received 130 electric buses. These buses were the first batch to make it to Qatar, out of the 741 units ordered for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

To meet public demand, more public transit bus stations are operating at Gharrafa, the Education City, Al Wakra, and the Industrial Area.
