“We’ve seen the excitement locally around the FIFA World Cup™ this year, especially since it’s being held in our region for the first time. This is why we were keen on helping people make the most out of the experience by offering new features to stay up-to-date with the tournament, discover local businesses and get more insights from matches, so they can continue to enjoy this global event whether they’re following virtually or the over 1.2 million people expected to attend in person in Qatar”

Here’s how you can use the new Google features to make the most of the Qatar World Cup:

Stay up to date with the tournament, teams and athletes on Google Search

All you need to do is search for the “World Cup” on Google. You will be able to click on the bell in the top-right corner to get updates on:

  • Teams
  • Players
  • Matches

Bonus: If you use Android, you can pin scores on your screen to get live updates on the scoreboard.

You can also get in-depth match statistics that break down the performance of the players. These tidbits can be easily customized and shared after each game. You can also track win probability throughout a game.

Users will also be able to rate players as part of a community. This can help other fans keep track of how those players have performed and how they rank over others.

Access amazing content with YouTube and Google Search

Want to rewatch the highlights and exciting plays from the game? The official FIFA channel on YouTube will feature amazing clips. You can also check out the official broadcasters YouTube channels to get recaps.

These features will help fans who are unable to watch matches due to time zone issues.

Content creators will also keep things lively and interesting for football fans. Right now, expect to see gaming creators AboFlah and Rima, sports creator Amr Nassouhy (Saba7o Korah), and lifestyle creator Noor Stars deliver their own take on the World Cup. You can also create your reaction videos under the #ShortsFIFAWorldCup tag with the Shorts Remix feature.

Watch matches inside and outside Qatar at convenience

Want to find the nearest place that’s showing World Cup matches? Just type “Where to watch the world cup near me” on Search. You will get a list of places.

Business owners can easily add this information to their profile on the Google Business Profile Help Page.

Google Maps will also provide easy directions for millions of fans visiting Qatar. You will be able to see detailed information about transit systems and road closures. Additional information on roads, footpaths across central Doha and points of interest in Qatar will also be available.

With these features, Google hopes to deliver a great experience for fans who want to make the most of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
